CTRL TOUR

CTRL TOUR

From an underground songstress to main-stream stardom, Solana aka SZA has taken the world by storm with her debut album CTRL. One of my bestfriends, Nimiye, was always obsessed with SZA and would make me listen to her songs. I vividly remember the night Love Galore video dropped and I called her raving about how dope the concept was. I had never seen something so sexy, yet dark, pleasing, yet uncomfortable. SZA followed up with Broken Clocks and Drew Barrymore but the song that made my summer was the Weekend. For some reason, her lyrics seemed so relatable, even though I had never been in a situation as such.

After waiting three hours in line, it was finally time to see the Queen live in the flesh. SZA immediately greeted me with a smile and said "Hi, cutie what's your name?" Smiling mad hard, I responded "Bashel, that rhymes with facial." She said, "Wow that's a pretty ass name." Then we hugged and talked about the ratchetness of Atlanta. Though very brief, SZA had a way of connecting with every fan she met.

My favorite part of the concert was hearing the story behind all the tracks on CTRL. Her lyrics had already touched my spirit but to actually connect on another level was amazing. Also, Kendrick Lamar showed up to perform Doves In The Wind. Overall, the concert was one for the books.
