Bashel The Zillennial

We're two episodes away from the season finale of Bashel The Zillennial, so what's next? There's been a few thoughts on my mind around the big question. Inspired by Beyonce's In Her Own Words, Vogue interview, I've written a self-reflection piece on what's next for Bashel.

To my people- I am genuinely thankful for the constant outpour of love & support!

BRINGING BTZ TO LIFE

I've always wanted to make a YouTube series but never knew how to bring the essence of Bashel to video-style content. It's funny because when I was in college, I began writing a scripted pilot for a show very similar to BTZ but centered around my college experience.

When creating Bashel The Zillennial, I wanted to make a series that offered entertainment and information, "infotainment," if you will… Of course, with any major project comes new challenges; however, when you're truly passionate about your craft, you're willing to spare no expense to bring your vision to life. The moments captured are authentic, but the planning was imperative. Before I even got in front of the camera, the pre-planning took six months, then filming took two months, and the post-production is ongoing (till this day).

Changes

I'm practicing grace as I maneuver through 2022. As the first male in my family to graduate college, I feel a lot of pressure to "figure it out." When I took on college and traveled abroad, I went into it with an open mindset. However, after graduating college, something changed. That once fearless Bashel became more conscious of the world he was navigating and dreaded the thought of change to the point of complacency. Note to the public- bad bitches are never complacent; we're forever evolving. Bashel The Zillennial was a way for me to grow creatively and push myself. Now, as BTZ is ending, I'm taking a step back to learn from the experience. A question I keep asking myself is, "what's next?"

Student of the game

I'm taking some time away from social media in April to become a student of the game. Jay-Z made a really interesting tweet a couple of months ago when people compared MJ and Bey. He said, "Beyoncé is gonna be one of the best singers we have ever heard because she is such a student." For some reason, that stuck with me months later! I hope this time will allow me to read, study and then apply. I've been blogging and loving fashion since I was a kid. The increasing influencer culture made me forget why I even started my blog, which was to connect with my community.

I want to have a clear vision of the value I can add to a room. I want to network across rather than up. Becoming a student of the game is the right direction for me to go - listen more, talk less.
